A Realistic Guide to a Skin Detox
Detox is definitely a buzzword for January. It’s associated with fad diets, green smoothies, complicated and unrealistic regimes which can ultimately lead to disappointment and worst of all – feeling like you’ve let yourself down.
That’s why we’ve put together a soap-er simple plan to help you remove impurities, toxins and sooo 2019 dead skin. Instead we’re going to help you renew and nourish your skin – the biggest organ in your body (freaky we know).
If you’ve over indulged in the Christmas festivities you’re not alone in wanting to give your body, mind and skin a relaxing treat. But where do you start? We’ve got you boo.
Do you drink enough water? I know I don’t. Health authorities recommend that we should be drinking 2 litres of water a day. It sounds like a lot, and maybe not realistic for every day but it’s so important that we try! Our bodies are just like plants, we need water to flourish and survive.
Very few people actually drink 2 litres of water per day, and on top of that they’re drinking dehydrating beverages like coffee, sugary juices, fizzy drinks and alcohol. I’m not over the moon about cutting out these crucial categories from my life. But if your skin is asking for help, maybe a break will do it good. At least for your detox days, while your skin is being cleaned from the inside out, swap your morning cup for hydrating and skin-clearing green tea, or a nice cold glass of water.
Shower Twice a Day
This may sound simple but it can feel like a lot of effort when all you want to do is crawl back into bed. But we’re not about that life anymore remember? You should at least rinse your body once and then give it a good cleanse for the second – it’s not realistic to expect anyone to do a full regime of lotions and potions twice a day every day!
The steam from a hot shower will not only wake you up and leave you feeling fresh for the day it will help you wind down in the evening. Hot steam also does miracles for opening your pores, this allows for quality ingredients to penetrate the skin and push out the bad. Our Super Soap range makes this quick and easy!
- Use Himalayan Salt for: Effective removal of dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal. Gently exfoliate your skin and let the Himalyan minerals absorb into your pores, such as minerals it contains including Iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
- Use Activated Charcoal for: Drawing out impurities and gently unblock your pores. Our Soots You Super Soap is made with Aloe Vera which has properties to soothe, protect and help heal irritated skin, Shea Butter to nourish and Tea Tree to refine and purify pores.
- Use Avocado Oils for: Nourishing and moisturising the skin. Avocado oil is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and contains Vitamin A, D & E, Potassium and lecithin – great for dry skin or problem skin. Guac this Way Super Soap is also made with hemp oil – to moisturise without clogging pores.
Don’t let the razor let you down!
By using our Super Soap products in the shower, like Soots You, Rocks Off and Gauc this Way, you’re already giving your skin a quality dose of minerals and moisture. But when it comes to shaving, don’t let the razor take away all your work!
Nobody wants to have itchy legs after a quick shave. Always use a shaving foam or whipped soap and let that razor glide pain free. By lifting the hair up in the suds the razor can get a clean cut, and the product will leave your pores feeling unirritated.
Using The Soap Story’s Wonder Whip Soap is not only fun and great for shaving, it saves your skin from harsh ingredients like SLS and parabens – and won’t interrupt your detox.
If you’re serious about giving your skin, body and mind a rest from toxins you’ve got to take a look at your diet. It’s a tale as old as time, but it’s a good one. If you’re like me and addicted to melted cheese and pizza… it’s a tough reality.
We’re not saying jump on a fad diet plan, in fact the opposite. Try and limit your consumption of dairy, fried/fast food and sugar during your detox. Add alkaline rich fruit and veggies to your diet such as juicy pears, broccoli, kale and watermelon! We’re only human, we all slip up and can fall off the wagon, but make sure you get straight back on! Try your best during your detox days in order to see your results.
Remember: adding exercise and getting fresh air can also help with a detox.
The most important part of a detox is afterwards. Make sure you take away the elements that you enjoyed most and add them to your everyday life and then continue to see the results and feel great.
