Mother’s Day Ideas in Lockdown 2021

It’s that time of the year again, even though last March feels like yesterday, believe it or not, it was actually a full year ago?! If you’re like me, you’ve probably exhausted lockdown activities over the last 12 months, so when it comes to Mother’s Day you’re feeling a bit lost? Am I right?

However, whether we can see our mums in person or not, Mother’s Day 2021 is a chance to celebrate everything she does for us and it turns out, there are plenty of ways to make her feel extra-special, no matter what your plans might be.

  1. Who doesn’t love baked goods? Bake and send her brownies in the post

Yeah flowers are nice, but you know what else is nice? A home-baked treat to show your mum how much you care. Of course, you could bake your mum anything this Mother’s Day, it doesn’t have to be brownies and if she lives nearby, drop it off on her doorstep.

If, like many of us, your mum isn’t a hop away, why not bake and post some brownies? You can order boxes on Amazon and – top tip – Brownies travel pretty well thanks to being so beautifully rich dense-ness.

2. Send a photo book

If you’re anything like us, we have heaps of photos on our phones and always tell ourselves we’re going to get some printed but somehow never get around to doing it. Likewise, when was the last time you had some pictures printed of you and your mum? (on the front of a Moonpig card doesn’t count). Surprise her with a photobook made with some of your favourite snaps. She’ll love it.

3. Put together a self care hamper full of goodies

Your bundle, hamper, or gift bag could be full of Bath Bombs, Soap Sponges, Chocolates, face masks, hair treatments and shampoo bars, a bottle of wine or prosecco, fresh PJs, new nail polish, fluffy socks, all the things that your mum loves. Mums work hard at keeping everyone’s life together, why not give the gift of some ‘you time’, time to get her own life together!

When you spend £20 on The Soap story products remember that we’re also plant a tree on your behalf via tree-nation, so there’s an added something special for your mum!

4. A Virtual Mother’s Day Dinner

I know we’re all getting a bit sick of Zoom these days, but we’ll make an exception for Mother’s Day. Why not order your mum a lovely takeaway to her door, (get some for yourself too while you’re at it!) Then you can both hop on Zoom and have a cute virtual dinner together, catch up on life, and reminisce about times before lockdown.

5. Do a virtual class together

Everyday is a school day! Want to spend quality time and also have fun with your mum? Book an online class and get carried away learning a new skill. From cocktail making masterclasses to escape rooms, there’s something for everyone.

It can also be a great opportunity to try out something you both haven’t done in the past and spend quality time together.

6. Look beyond lockdown, vouchers for activities this summer

Although it’s hard to trust when promises are made about us emerging from lockdown this summer, you’ll find many restaurants, salons, beauticians and activity centres have extended their expiry on vouchers. Why not give your mum a dinner out together, or a voucher to get that lockdown hair sorted out, or a little weekend away. Something to look forward to, just us squirlfriends!

There are plenty of options out there, so get prepared. Mother’s day is Sunday the 14th of March this year. Get it in your diary and get organised. Good luck!
